What a day is has been, and it’s not even 3:00 yet!
I wake up, excited, because today was going to be the day I get my foot x-rayed again. I have never been so excited for a doctor's appointment!
While I was in the waiting room, I was shaking with the anticipation of getting the cast cut off. I was certain that I would be going home with some sort of new cast but knowing that my leg would be free for even a few moments was complete bliss.
I left the hospital with a bare foot. That's right, not even a shoe on it! The x-says showed it was healing nicely and the doctors said that I passed the pain, walking, and standing tests, so I didn't need a walking cast.
I asked what I needed to do to protect my foot, since I wanted to be running and dancing and jumping as soon as I could. They said I needed to wear army boots or hiking boots for the next 2 weeks. I looked at them like they were aliens. It's 25 degrees outside, as if I am going to walk around in boots for the next two weeks, let alone they wouldn't go with too many of my outfits.
When I asked why the boots, one doctor picked up the flip flop I had walked in with and bent sole to illustrate how little support they provided. He said I need to wear footwear that has a solid, stable sole. I crutched myself tout of the hospital, as happy as a lark.
I went home for a bit before returning to the office. I actually walked up the stairs to my condo. It took a little while to get my foot back. The sensation of anything touching it was so shocking, almost painful. To step on the sole of my foot it felt as if the bottom was round and swollen. It was such a weird sensation. But with more use, the sensations started returning to normal. I walked up the stairs inside my condo. In my closet I would a pair of shoes that would somewhat meet their "stable sole" criteria.
It was great to surprise my friends when I went back to the office. It was impressive how I went from on crutches with a hot pink cast and only 2 hours later I am walking around in fashionable footwear (almost as if nothing happened; I do have a slight limp from the muscles being stiff from not being used).
THEN the fire alarm went off!
I had to limp down 3 flights of stairs. If it had been yesterday, or a few hours earlier, someone would have had to carry me down because there was no way I'd be able to hop down all those stairs in any kind of timely manner. I wasn't even the last one out of the building.
Once outside, I shocked a bunch of other people who were stunned that I was looking so normal after looking so gimp earlier in the day.
