Hello, Spring?

No trick photography here, it's March 20th, in Edmonton, and it's freaking snowing! I have video evidence, too.

Mother Nature plays the cruelest of jokes. Here we are, excited at the start of Spring, and the weather has been warming up, the snow has been melting and then BANG! more snow.

In the snow's defence, the snowflakes are huge and soft and sparkling, and it was pretty to watch them fall down and around me.

Hair Whore/St Patrick's Day

I have been a bit of a hair whore since Anthony yet again abandoned me, but I am ready to settle down now. I went to see Allan (totally not gay) at Icon (he cut my hair once before Anthony resurfaced). He's only there on Fridays and Saturdays but definitely worth trying to fit him into my schedule.

On Saturday, I had my hair cut and coloured, something fun and flirty was what Allan wanted because he said it matched my bubbly personality. :D It's darker now, with bleached blond peek-a-boo highlights. I love it!

After my appointment, I met with Jenn, Michelle, LL and Damon and Yves. We had some drinks, dressed up the cats, and gave then Sambuca shots, which they turned their noses up at. Oh and I actually got ID'ed buying festive green Sour Puss at the liquor store. The day before I was in another store buying wine, with dark sunglasses on, and had no problems!

We went to Whyte Ave, which was insanely busy! Why was it so busy, can someone please tell me! Do more people really drink out in the pubs because it's St Patrick's Day? Instead of fighting the lines, most of us left, and I went to hang out with Scott and his friends, as they drank beer and watched horrible movies on TV (End of Days, seriously horrible movie the first time around; 100 times worse watching it a second time!) Still, I think that was better than risking having green beer spilt on me in a pub. And please don't judge them because of the movie selection. ;)

Whose bright idea was it ... oh, an American's!

Since the clocks changed on Sunday morning, I have had a heck of a time getting to sleep at night, and waking up has been quite difficult (and we're only on day 3!).  Last night I forgot to turn on my alarm clock (and I have a new cell phone that doesn't have the option to set a weekday alarm that goes off Monday to Friday without me even thinking about it, like my old phone did, and guess what! I forgot to set it last night) so I slept in.  Guess what time I woke up at - THE EXACT TIME I would have been waking up at before the time change, exactly one hour late for this morning, leading me to ask, whose bright idea was is to adapt Daylight Saving Time two weeks early this year?  I HATE IT!!

Thank you U.S.A. for making me late for work today!  Thank you George W. Bush for making me late for work today!  Thank you stupid American Energy Policy Act of 2005 for making me late for work today!

And why is it called Daylight Saving Time ... we don't actually save any daylight, it's just shifted to later in the day.  Kudos to Saskatchewan, Arizona, and Hawaii standing up for themselves and keeping away from the DST idea.

Another Waver!

(Scott, I totally forgot to tell you about this last night!!)

Guess who has another waver... me!

Yesterday while I was running, I was rounding the corner by the spin class area and this guy was by the weights and he waved to me, and smiled, AND SAID HELLO.  I said hi and kept on running.  Lucky for him I wasn't too far into my run otherwise I wouldn't have been able to say anything back and he would have thought me to be a total snob. ha ha!

He's a muscly guy with no neck and usually wears a faded maroon coloured ball cap.  He is there, with his friends, on a somewhat regular basis.

He is not the same waver from December, but at the end of January I was walking behind them leaving the gym and one guy told the other 2 guys, there's that girl, and then they all looked at me as I walked past them, and it was soooo obvious they were talking about me.

Crack Doctor

I went for the first time to see a chiropractor.  For over a decade I have noticed a popping in my back/hip when I do sit ups that involve single leg extensions.  I didn't think that was normal and finally decided to have it check out. She aligned my back and worked on my neck and oh my gosh how much do I love that massage machine she has!!  Turns out the ligaments/tendons whatever in my back/hip are tight and she said to work on stretching out the hip flexor and quads (or was it the hamstrings, I can't remember now! no, no it was the quads, because she said I was tight in the front)  I go back on Thursday for a follow up and then next Wednesday I start getting massages again.  I forgot how much I have missed them!

The Hudsons Hangover

This should have been posted 2 weeks ago but I've been busy and sort of neglecting my blog.
On Friday I got to experience a night out drinking with Scotty and his friends. On Saturday I spent the day suffering from hangover! Yes, I learnt my lesson: I cannot keep up with the big boys when it comes to drinking, especially when it starts at 2:00 in the afternoon!!
I think, while in a drunken stupor, I might have agreed to join the dodgeball team. I hope no one remembers that, because I can't even remember the rules to the game, and I don't know if I could stand having people trying to intentionally hit me with a ball. Maybe I'll check out a game and see. It mught be fun!
His friends are great, and a lot of fun! Wow, looking at the photos, there was a lot of hugging and kissing and licking (what the heck was up with that??). I think I remember everyone's name... there were so many people at our table!

So, what does it mean, to die?

About a month ago, Kev was raving about this movie, said I HAD to see it. I download it and was going to watch it but then got busy doing other things and then Cookie tells me he started watching it and it was good, so good that he didn't finish it so he rented it again the next weekend to watch it all the way through. Then a bunch of other people at work and stuff were talking about it... well I finally watched THE ILLUSIONIST and I LOVED IT. Thank you for the recommendation!!

Waiting For The Day

You can also listen to the song here (minus all the chattering in the background). I totally need to buy this album!!

What a fun day!

Was I scared? Nah, not really. When we were starting off, Scott told me to hand on and no matter what, keep my feet on the sideboards, even if I felt like we were going to tip over, and leave everything to him. So that's what I did! The snow was sooooo deep in a lot of the fields, and we got stuck a few times but he did a good job of keeping me from falling off the snowmobile.

We were out for 5 hours!! It was sunny with clear blue skies and not too cold. Don't get me wrong, at a few points my toes and hands were a bit cold but they would warm up as we stopped going to fast. White, powdery snow everywhere, and when we were zipping over the pristine fields with the snow sparling as if wearing a coat of diamonds, it was so lovely!

Scott is such a sweety!! He would ask me along the way if I was warm enough, or too warm. When we were on own way back to the city and stopping for snacks, he made sure I selected the best orange juice and then in the truck he went to hand me the bottle, but then quickly snatched it back so he could shake it up for me. Awww! I can shake up my own juice, and would have done it, but it is nice that he is looking out for me.

The HUGEASS hill we went UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN again. I should have taken pictures from the very bottom looking up and from the top looking down. I will a tiny bit apprehensive at the first attempt, but once I knew what to expect it was fine. (and I will now admit that I was also a little nervous going down some of the ditches; I thought we were going to flip ass over nose!)

I wish I would have taken a picture when we first started out - the little trees had snow crystals stuck to them that reminded me of the science project from elementary school where you dissolve sugar in water, stick in a string and then the sugar crystalizes on the string. We can go again, but it will be hard to find another day that is exactly like this magnificent day was.

Headline News (updated)

(picture added)
Angelinie is going snowmobiling with Scotty tomorrow and she is totally stoked!!! It gives a purpose to all the powdery snow that has been falling over the past few days. Tomorrow's weather should be sunny and not too cold (moring -12C, rising to -5C)

Close My Eyes

Today's favourite song: Close My Eyes by Mesh-29 - a guitar/piano acoustic group from the UK and they sound amazing! Waiting For The Day and Cigarettes are my favourite songs, neither of which I have been able to find to download.
If you were I then I'd be right and you'd be fine

And all the shit you blame me for

I'd leave behind

This record's on repeat and now

It's all worn out

A tired song of what went wrong

When I was right

But I'm afraid there is no other way

And I'm scared that I'll be nothing

'Cause when I close my eyes

I want to be somebody else

And if I spoke my mind

I'm be the one you're leaving out

And now I'm tired, I'm tired of letting go

Tied up and left to sit alone

Too late 'cause now I'm on my own

She turns her head to say good night

Just one more time

The conversation ends

She sleeps just one more time

'Cause when I close my eyes

I want to be somebody else

And if I spoke my mind

I'm be the one you're leaving out

And now I'm tired, I'm tired of letting go

Tied up and left to sit alone

Too late 'cause now I'm on my own

Song of the Day

My favourite song for today is Trophy by Bat For Lashes. I found the song for download here. I discovered Bat For Lashes one day while at reading a music magazine at the hair salon while Noemi was getting her hair done. The magazine (Spin? I cannot even remember which on it was) mentioned the song What's A Girl To Do, which instantly became one of my favourite songs after listening to it. The vocals in Trophyare a little bit Bjork-ish, but the singing is all in tune to the music, not like how Bjork sometimes has a tune in her head different to which the music is being played. In other songs, she sounds like Kate Bush. Check out the whole album (Fur and Gold) it is great!

Roadside

I was going to put this with the Make This Go On Forever post, but really, each song deserves its own post.

My new favourite song of the hour: Roadside by Rise Against. I swear I listened to it 50 times the other night.

Tell me what I'm suppose to do
With all these left over feelings of you
Cause I don't know

And tell me how
I'm suppose to feel
When all these nightmares
Become real

Cause I don't know

And I don't think you see
The places inside me
That I found you

And I don't know how we
Separate the lies here from the truth

And I don't know how we
Woke up one day somehow thought we knew
Exactly what we're suppose to do

So leave me
At the roadside
And hang me
Up and out to dry

Make This Go On Forever

Over the past two days I have listened to Make This Go On Forever by Snow Patrol probably a hundred times! I want to melt into it. I also wish that a ticket to see the April 10th concert will magically fall into my lap.

Please don't let this turn into something it's not
I can only give you everything I've got
I can't be as sorry as you think I should
But I still love you more than anyone else could

All that I keep thinking throughout this whole flight
Is 'it could take my whole damn life to make this right'
This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long
Because I know fine well that what I did was wrong

The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love

We have got through so much worse than this before
What's so different this time that you can't ignore?
You say it is much more than just my last mistake
And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes

The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love

The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love

And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness
Please just save me from this darkness

Valentines

I intended to make some elaborate Valentines this year but I procrastinated (ok, so I have been busy with the gym and too tired!) and took a simpler route.

Lorraine & Eric Visit

Feb 10th, party at Michelle & Jenn's. Occassion: housewarming and because Lorraine and Eric were visiting. Eric is from NYC and this was our first chance to meet him. We went to Iron Horse on Whyte Ave and that was a treat (not!) Note to self: DO NOT go there again. It's just not my crowd, and I didn't ever say one work to anyone who was outside of the friends circle.

oh! that's not entirely true... when I left, I asked these guys waiting to cross the street if they were going over by Southgate because I needed a lift, because it was 1:00 in the morning, it was cold and snowing, and I hate having to try to hail a cab on Whyte! One guy said ya, his dad was on his way to pick them up. Turns out these boys are like 18! haha! We stood in the drive thu line at McDonald's for a few minutes (did I mention it was snowing?) and then the dad showed up before they could get food. They didn't need the greasy crap anyway. Then I went back downtown to meet up with Tall Kevin and Craig at Overtime.

Gift Ideas

Noemi found this website and there is a lot of neat personalized stuff there. I know my birthday is still a few months away, but I really want this hoodie! Size small, please ;)

songs I listen to that my friends detest

Here's a short list of the songs I can remember my friends telling me they hate it when I play...

  1. Michelle doesn't like Lighting Is My Girl by Auf Der Maur (In Michelle's words - or anything by "that girl from Smashing Pumpkins")
  2. Scott doesn't like Pleasure Principle by Lesbians on Ecstasy (he also says I listen to too much Indie crap)**
  3. Eelke doesn't like Pioneers by Tunng
  4. Kevin doesn't like Degausser by Brand New, even though he likes the band
  5. **Scott decided Lesbians on Ecstasy might not be so bad after all, but he doesn't like Snow (Hey oh) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

I say :p to them all because I like these songs!

Whale Blubber

I clicked on this link Protein and learned that under Finfish and Shellfish Products Raw, Green Turtle is the 2nd best protein source next to Raw Frogs Legs!! Under Poultry Products they list Emu, under Ethnic Foods is Seal, Walrus and Beluga Whale!! I was could hardly tell Michelle wheat I found because I was laughing so much!!

So Michelle asks if Whale Blubber is listed as a good fat source and I excitedly said, "I will check!!" and sure as shit, they do have Whale Blubber (see image below) I was laughing historically because it is at the top of the caloric ratio pyramid.

Ewww you can also see the nutrient information for Beluga Whale EYES. Their moisture content is 55%... learn something new every day!!

I can't eat that much!

At work today, Damon sent this website to Michelle, and she sent it on to me http://www.nutritiondata.com/ . I went to the Daily Needs Calculator and before I post my results I need to say make an announcement:

I have 11 packs of butter in my desk!!

When I get a croissant from Sunterra in the morning, I grab a few packs of butter so Michelle and I have them to put on our Ryvita crackers and English muffins.

At 10:00, Michelle and I were on the escalator after getting breakfast, I lifted up my shirt, and patted a butter container on my tummy to illustrate that it's going to go right there and she said that was the funniest thing to see me do. Some of the guys in the office were on the Up escalator and I think they might have seen me. haha! They probably think I am insane. There were people everywhere; everyone probably thinks I am insane.

Anyways, so there is no way I can consume nearly 3100 calories a day, but at least know why I am still dropping fat even though I eat croissants and real butter and lots of dark chocolate. That's not all my diet consists of, I do eat a lot of vegetables and fruit and lately a lot of bread (raisin bread & whole grain) and multigrain crackers (Grains First Spring Harvest by Dare are the BOMB!) Oh and I didn't even mention that I am doing weight training, so I probably need even more than 3100 calories.

My Tamagotchi

I'm am an adult and I have a Tamagotchi. It was a present from Eelke. They are heartbreaking little things.

I lost my Tamagotchi on Saturday. I had been naming, feeding, playing with, and nurturing these electronic pets since the start of the year, without them dying on me. Conni was a 4th generation (meaning I raised 4 tamas and their offspring before her) and she had a baby. I was so upset that I had become so attatched to this silly toy!!
I found it Sunday afternoon, in the pocket of my bath robe. Conni and the baby were hungry, sick, and surrounded by poop, but still alive!! I nursed them back to health and later that night Conni left and I only had the baby, which I named Uma.
Ok, so what happens when the parent leaves... at midnight on the second night of having a baby, if you turn on the light you see the adult Tama wake up, stare at the baby Tama and then slowly fly away. They abandon their young!! In the morning, when the baby Tama wakes up, you have to select a name and then it starts to cry. wah! How heartbreaking! This is a child's toy and it I am reacting like this, how is a child going to react to it?? Oh what a cruel world.

Music Monday

I'm being sneaky today and listening to music at work!  I am wearing a turtle neck sweater and have my hair down, so running the earphone wire under my shirt to one ear and having my ipod in my pocket, no one has noticed.  I just have to remember not to start singing along to the music! heehee  I don't see what the big deal is, I have one ear free to talk on the phone and actually it is increasing my productivity because I am not gabbing with the girls like I usually do.
  1. Skyline - by Diefenbach
  2. The River- by Good Charlotte
  3. Sowing Season (Yeah) - by Brand New
  4. Mixed Tape - by Jack's Mannequin
  5. Kill The Messenger - by Jack's Mannequin
  6. Degausser - by Brand New
  7. On The Move - by Diefenbach
  8. Cat And Mouse - by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
  9. Amazed - by Greg Laswell (not crazy about the entire song, but the chorus is catchy!
  10. Luv Me or Hate Me - by Lady Sovereign

It's a hard life being a cat.

I just played this on the computer and Lucky, who is sitting at my feet, looked up when she heard my voice in the video clip. haha! I just played it again and she did the same thing! hahah!!

Smokey & the Bandit

Jennifer (Smokey) and Michelle (Bandit) got kittens and they are soooo stinking cute!! Smokey is so tiny and Bandit hs these white hairs all through his black coat, it looks so neat. I had total kitten envy the whole time I was visiting there.

Oh! and I should have taken pictures of the their new place, it's so neat! The foyer has a cool winding staircase and chandelier. Miranda walked in and said, oh Mummy, I know why you like this place; it's so clean and quiet! lol I hadn't even opened my mouth to comment on it when she said that. And the halls leading to the suits are decorated... oh it is indescribable! I will have to get a picture.

Breakfast Blog

It was to Moxie's for breakfast this afternoon (ah it was so nice to sleep in! but not really since I was up until nearly morning watching episodes of The Office and listening to music; I'm now hooked on the show, and Jack's Mannequin) and ummmmm it was soooo good! I was starving and it was so pleasant to have a fantastic meal. I had the texas breakfast wrap: scrambled eggs, salsa, black beans, corn, green onions, tomatoes and cheddar in a tortilla, served with salsa, sour cream and guacamole with breakfast potatoes on the side. I totally shouldn't have done anything with dairy, but it was soooo worth the sore milk allery ears I have now. It felt naughty to be having a mimosa with breakfast, but really, I have decided it is going to be a Sunday breakfast tradition. :)

Smokin' Aces

Last night I was coerced into seeing Smokin' Aces. Ok, ok, I admit, I ended up walking into the theatre voluntarily, but it wouldn't have been my movie of choice had I been asked to pick the flick. I figured with Ryan Reynolds and Matthew Fox and Ben Afflick I would at least get a little eye candy out of it, but sadly, the gentlemen were all covered with hideous facial hair!

Upon leaving the theatre, my initial assessment of the film was that I liked the ending, but the movies was overall pretty f'ed up and bloody. Today, I am thinking that the movie wasn't so bad after all. I mean, I sat through the entire film and not once felt the urge to check out the time to try to figure out how much longer the movie would be going on for. It kept me on my toes and there were not very many instances where I thought, Oh I know what's going to happen next. It was also really nice to be a theatre that wasn't full of kids (this movie carries an 18A rating).

H2O

Buying bottled water is wrong, says Suzuki.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundland-labrador/story/2007/02/01/suzuki-water.html

Canadians wanting to do something about the environment can start by drinking tap water, environmentalist David Suzuki says.

Sorry, David, but I cannot stand the taste of tap water. I will use Edmonton tap water to make tea, cook my food, feed my cat (she actually doesn't like bottled water), wash my hair and brush my teeth with, but when it comes to drinking just plain water, I need to have the pure, clean taste of Dasani or Aquafina or other demineralized water. I always recycle my bottles. And since I use tap water for everything else, my doctor assures me that I am (and that Miranda is) getting enough fluoride.

I know an alternative to bottled water would be to use a water filtration system. Since it costs a fair bit to get one put in the house, I will look in to a portable filtration method, like using a Brita filter. How does that sound, David?

ps - I really miss watching The Nature of Things!

Sudden Outburst

The girls were walking in the mall at lunch (meaning Me, Michelle and Jennifer) when suddenly Michelle burst out in a fit of laughter. It was hilarious because the three of us had not been taken a few moments of silence (surprisingly!) and when she started laughing for no apparent reason, the group of oncoming guys looked at us soooo puzzled, like she had turret's or something like that.

Once finished laughing, she explained that she was watching me walk and then watching Jenn walk, (since we were walking slightly ahead of her) and then she was trying to mimick us. Hearing this admission caused us all to burst out laughing. By her assessment, I strut like a model and Jenn takes short, quick steps. Michelle was amused because walking is something that everybody does, but everyone does it differently.

Music for today

Maybe I'll start posting a daily music list, at least until I get tired of that, or too busy, or something. I've spent all day on the computer today because Miranda started puking as we were leaving the house today so I got stuck at home.
  1. Woman Like A Man - by Damien Rice
  2. What's A Girl To Do - by Bat For Lashes
  3. Tel que tu es - by Charlotte Gainsbourg
  4. Re-Offender - by Travis
  5. Hunting For Witches - by Bloc Party
  6. Thanks For The Memories - by Fall Out Boy

X-Files

I found this photo of Me and Daniel (from Texas)... it was taken 9 years ago at an X-Files convention about a week after I moved to Dallas. I was a terrible actress at that time!! I don't know if I am any better now (I like to think I am) but at least now I wouldn't be smiling at the sight of an approaching bright light, as I was doing in this photo.

Pretty When You Cry

Here is a list of the top 10 Songs to Make You Cry currently in rotation on my ipod/computer

1. Cat and Mouse by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus lyrics

We made plans to grow old,
believe me there was truth in all those stories that I told.
Lost in a simple game cat and mouse are we the same people as before this came to light?

Am I supposed to be happy?
with all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.

2. Look after You - by The Fray lyrics

There now, steady love, so few come and don't go
Will you won't you, be the one I always know
When I'm losing my control, the city spins around
You're the only one who knows, you slow it down

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Be my baby
Oh, oh, oh
I'll look after you

3. Konstantine - by Something Corporate lyrics

I can't imagine all the people that you know
And the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
And I don't understand all the things you've seen
But I'm slipping in between
You and your big. . .
Dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams

And you tell me that it's over
But I can't stand here in a patch of four leaf clover
And your restless
And I'm naked
You gotta get out
You can't stand to see me shakin'
No. . .
Could you let me go?
I didn't think so.

4. Final Goodbye - by Victorion lyrics

Tried to be something I was not
To make you happy
But it all went wrong
And now we're sad
Sitting all alone, and even mad
Can't pick up the phone
Can't even talk to you
God I'm feeling blue
Can't talk to you
For now

5. Relief - by Chris Garneau lyrics

i saw the sea come in
i saw your good old friend
he walked right passed
i'll never ask
i'll never ask again

i love the way you dance
we can work well out
dont u miss your chance
the pain will all grow out

6. Golden - by Fall Out Boy lyrics

And I knew the lights of the city were too heavy for me (too heavy for me)
And though I carry carots for everyone to see (everyone to seeeeee)

And I saw god cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies,
to stay away from me
and pray that they don't grow up to be

7. We Might Fall - by Ryan Star lyrics

We should go to sleep now,
You should stay the night.
I'll be up to watch the world around us live and die.
Lying on the grass now,
Dancing for the stars.
Maybe one will look on down and tell us who we are.

We might fall
We might fall
We might fall Hallie we might fall

8. Love Will Come Through - by Travis lyrics

So take me, don't leave me
Take me, don't leave me
Baby, love will come through
It's just waiting for you

And you stand at the crossroads
Of highroads and lowroads
And I've got a feeling
It's right

If it's real what I'm feeling
There's no make believing
The sound of the wings
Of the flight

9. Comin' Home - by City and Colour lyrics

I've seen a palace in London, I've seen a castle in Wales
but I'd rather wake up beside you and breathe that ol' familiar smell.
I never thought you could leave me, I figured I was the one
but I understand your sadness so I guess I should just hold my tongue.

But I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home
I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home
Comin' home, I'm comin' home
Comin' home

I know that we're takin' chances, you told me life was a risk.
I just have one last question...
will it be my heart or will it be his?

10. Center of Attention - by Jackson Waters lyrics

You want your independence
But you won't let me let you go
You wanna test the waters
And leave it on the empty shores

But I'll take my time if you want to
And I'll give you whatever you need
And I'll wait a lifetime to give it to you
Give it to you

Sometimes I wish

Don't get me wrong, I love my child dearly, but lately this single parent thing has been very exhausting.

This morning:
- Miranda didn't want to wake up
- we were late leaving the house as a result
- I was 1/2 way to work I realised we left her lunch on the counter so I had to turn around and get it to school for her so she wouldn't starve
- I was late for work

If I could be 22 again:
- the only thing that might have made me late for work was a hangover, and I was pretty good at still dragging my ass to work on mornings like that
- I was dating Marshall and Chuck and this time I would stay with Marshall
- I won't have gotten married, won't have had a baby, and I wouldn't have anyone else to look after
- living in a warmer climate (the specialist said it was best for my fingers if I move to a climate warmer than Alberta) and not having problems with Reynaud's and wasn't having to go for Lupus screening.

My initial blood work shower a decrease in a particular antibody, which is usually consistent with an auto-immune disease, and Reynaud's can be a result of Lupus, hence the reason for the Lupus screening.

In the meantime I have the following checklist for personal care:
- don't smoke - never did, not about to start!
- exercise - still running and looking to start training with weights
- control stress - hah! good one, I'm a single parent, remember?
- take care of hands & feet (mittens & socks) - already do that

Bleeding me dry

On Friday I went to the lab to have blood drawn, a task I managed to put off for 3 months. I could have put it off longer but I had an appointment with the speacialist today and needed to have the results for him. Eight vials of blood they took!! And I had to fast for 12 hours before the test, so I was not feeling so great that day.

The doctor I met with specializes in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine, in regards to my fingers and toes turning white, blue, red, and even purple now. He went over my test results and said he wants me to have some other tests done, which means another 7 or 8 vials of blood have to be drawn.

Shout out out out out ! to my Bro

Hi butt-wipe!!

I don't believe I have really mentioned him here but I do have a younger brother (Roland). Perhaps I would talk about him more if he actually called me when he was in town... *wink*

Anyway, he wasn't able to come home for Christmas (I wasn't around anyway) and he sent pictures of the Christmas tree the boys built at the camp (or whatever it's called where they are at). Look at those fancy-dancy glow-striped coveralls! Coulor me jealous!! (not!)

I did get the photos at Christmas time, it's just now that I am getting around to blogging about it.

Damn Apes - love it love it love it

If you only do one thing in 2007, check out this band from Vancouver!! Damn Apes And then tell all your friends to check them out!!

I sometimes chat with one of the Damn primates (heehee that's so cute and funny!) and he never told me he was in a band, and that they are sooooo good!! I swear, I have been living on their MySpace page for the past 5 days, listening to their songs over and over. I would totally make the drive there to see one of their shows one of these days. Anyone up for a roadtrip?

this and that

  1. Miranda got mail, she says thank you!
  2. amazon.com ... why, why did you do that? I don't know what I should do with it.
  3. I do not get my music from last.fm. If I ever visit the site I go to this page, click around on my stats and that's about it.
  4. I hate that photo of you.

the giraffe

As we were leaving the house this morning, Miranda pulled a paper out of her bookbag and said that it was a card she made for me. She knows that my favourite animal at the zoo is the giraffe.

arm on ice

I was taking Miranda to school this morning and I went back to the car to retrieve a hair elastic so she could have her hair up for dance classes this afternoon. I nearly fell on the stairs leaving the school, considering myself very lucky that I hadn't fallen. Well #@*% my lucky because I don't have any real luck. As I was going to leave the school the second time, I slipped and fell in the hallway. Not about to let anyone see me on the floor, I immediately got back up and gracefully (at least with as much grace as was manageable) limped out to the car. I was actually going to work but after driving for 5 minutes I realised I had been crying the entire time and my arm was laying limp in my lap so it wasn't like I was actually going to be able to work. Plus, the pain was excruciating.

Yes, I turned around and went home. I could move my fingers (I didn't actually test that out until I was out of the school and in the car) so I deduced nothing was broken, and that the best thing would be to pack my arm in ice and take something for the pain and just rest.

Filling a bag with ice was interesting, since one hand hurt so bad and the other hand got cold so fast and my fingers were going white. I don't have much more ice in the freezer and I was thinking I would have o go out for more, but then I realised, it's winter! And I live in Canada! And we have lots of snow, so I don't have to go any further than the back yard. I might not have been blessed with luck, but I am blessed with brains.

I can't imagine always having to type with just hand all the time. (pardon any errors, at least I have an excuse!)

DROOL

I need it! I want it! I have to have it!
iPhone countdown to June
(I know Chris (the Apple hater) probably thinks I am retarded. His actual response was, I think I just threw up in my mouth.)

I have been shopping around for a new mobile phone and was 98% sure I was going to get the MOTOKRZR (because it's sleek and sexy), but I had also been considering the Samsung A720 (because it comes in pink) or the LG Chocolate (yummm! and love the red lights) or waiting for the LG Shine to hit Canada... but really, if Apple is going to have a phone out then is there any competition?? Since it won't be in Canada until probably December, I'm gonna get the KRZR and then upgrade at the end of the year.

Blizzard, and not they kind you buy at Dairy Queen

The next time there is a blizzard icon on the daily weather forecast, I am not letting myself out of the house! Yesterday, I was retarded enough to drive to work when I could barely see the road in front of me.

At the end of the day, it took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to get from my office to Miranda at the daycare centre. Yes, that's right, Miranda is back in daycare because my stepmonster told me on New Year's Eve that she can no longer watch her after school. I should have easliy been there in 45 minutes.

I thought maybe the office would shut down. They have done it in the past wtih the Halifax, NS office. Nope, we stayed open all day long. Not even a drop of sympathy for the people who didn't call in sick. I have lived in Edmonton for 30 years (with the exception of the 3 years spent in the States) and I have never known the city to shut down because of winter weather. In Dallas, a light dusting of snow fall over night caused our Microsoft office to shut down for the day.

Today they have began grating the snow off the main roads, making them as icy as skating rinks. The coin slot for the parking lot ticket dispenser was iced shut. I think I should have stayed in bed today, too. To K in Mexico: I should have hitched a ride in your suitcase.

"Yeah! You're part of it"

I've never been fond of rap music, but post-punk laptop rap, now there's something that I can listen to. MC Lars is amazing! Some songs are rappy, some songs are punky, some are both, every song sounds different. His sound is great, and his lyrics are mentally stimulating and funny with their modern references.

My favourite song is Space Game:

Hey Fry, look, we can still be friends
I won’t ask Leela out again. Sci-fi, I try, I fly solo
Shoot your landspeeder up just like Bolo
“What’s with Lars, and what’s with his name?”
Never mind that ish, ‘cause I’ve got space game!

CHORUS

Darth Maul can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)
Boba Fett can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)
Vader can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)
Space player bowling up like dynamite
Dr. Smith can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)
Q can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)
Even Hal can’t stop me (I’m on fire tonight)

Download this Song, a song which talks about the future of the music industry:

CHORUS
Hey Mr. Record Man
The joke’s on you
Running your label
Like it was 1992
Hey Mr. Record Man,
Your system can’t compete
It’s the New Artist Model

I just can't say enough about this stuff! Other great songs from his album "The Graduate" - Rapgirl, 21 Concepts, Ahab (Miranda's favourite!), Singing Emo, i-Generation... they are all great! Go listen now!!

Moments Captured

The concert last night was amazing!! The sound in the Winspear is fantastic, so crisp and clear, it's like nothing else in this world, and Dallas Green really is music to the ears in a magical sense! Casey Jones opened the show and he was wonderful!! His CD was a must buy, and it was so cute because he burns them himself, prints out the packaging, and staples it all together: great music, great songs, totally made with love. The best thing about it is these guys are so real. They are doing it for the love of the music, not because they love the attention and adoration of the fans. In fact, that made them uncomfortable. They are also sooo funny! (- Casey and his story about Starbucks pumpkin scones, how tuning the guitar between songs is like peeing with the door open, big papa d-dog.)

Someone said there was 1900 people in the auditorium, but I would never have guessed it would hold that many. It was quite intimate and with the acoustics being so wonderful, there was a lot of interaction with the audience. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!

AWESOME new song:

Dallas sings Hello,totally funny!

City And Colour

Well I've been down to Georgia
I've seen the streets in the west.
I've driven down the 90, hell I've seen America's best.
I've been through the Rockies,
I've seen Saskatoon
I've driven down the highway 1 just hopin' that I'd see you soon.

'cause I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home.

- Comin' Home (by City And Colour)

I just found out that I am going to see City And Colour on Saturday night at the Winspear!!! Dallas Green has such a great voice (He also is part of the band Alexisonfire and sings "The Grace" with Neverending White Lights.)

2007

The first morning of 2007 I was waking up in Banff!

How I got there:

Last night I left Edmonton at 6:15. I was a little afraid about making the trip, since I would be driving alone and it was pitch black outside, and I was afraid that I would be sleepy because of the darkness. Three cans of Coke Zero and two mandarin oranges helped keep me awake, not like I actually felt a narcoleptic attack coming on like I do driving in the city at night.
The thrill of the drive kept me stimulated! First, I had to watch carefully for potential hazards like animals running across the highway. The first rush came as I was watching the tail lights of the 3 cars ahead of me. Suddenly the middle set of lights disappeared!! There was no exit ramp in that area and at first I thought the car had just turned off its lights. Well, it turns out that the car had gone down a hill and then it popped back into view. I thought that was funny.

The second rush came when I was on highway 567 and was going up a twisty part, and I could see a car way up the road, twisting around.

The third rush came when I had my first sight of the mountains. The moon was full and bright and the snow on the peaks glowed. It was awe inspiring!

Problems - not really! I made one stop in Red Deer to top up the gas and visit the loo. Traffic was very light, especially once I got on the #567. Along that road there was a small curve and I went the wrong way but noticed my mistake immediately and was able to correct it. The same thing happened when trying to connect to the #22. I swear, they need to better mark the major junctions in this province!! The weather was great but I probably was still driving too fast for the time of year and being that it was at night. I did slow down once I hit the mountains, because I didn't want to spin out on some black ice.

I arrived at 10:15, just in time to start the celebrating (at the Paddock Pub. We didn't go out to the street for the fireworks, but apparently the streets are packed with people. The mess afterwards was reminiscent of Whyte Ave parties, beer bottles and garbage strewn all over the place.

How I got back:

Taking the route that detoured around Calgary, I arrived in 4 hours. On the way home I missed a few junctions and ended up driving through Calgary and I arrived home exactly 4 hours after leaving Banff. That trip back home was not nearly as fun, and was actually soft of stressful before I finally made it to the QE2. First, traffic was heavy and the wind was gusting and making my little Honda Civic blow about the road. Then, I missed the turn in the road for the highway #1A and ended up on the #1. So I figured I would ride it all the way to Calgary. Then I saw the exit for the #22 to Cochrane, but I couldn't get over in time to exit, so I figured I would stay on the #1 to Calgary. Once I got to Calgary, I was terrified I would somehow miss the connection to the QE2. Oh! and I was panicking as I drove through Calgary becasue the gas guage hasn't moved at all and was still sitting at full. I thought it was broken, but as I got to Deerfoot Trail the needle moved lower so I could relax.
