The Fish Replacement

A few weeks ago, Miranda and I picked out 2 new fish for the house.  I thought it would be brilliant if I get one for the office, too, so I would have something to "care for".  The moment passed and I can barely take care of myself, so why the heck would I want something else to have to care for?  Then, JJ brings me a plant to work. 

Me, take care of a plant?  The great thing about a child is that she tells me when she needs something.  I don't hear boo from the plant!  I won't be offended if people take bets as to how long it lives.  I've had the plant for maybe not even 2 weeks, and already twice I have watered it because the leaves were starting to shrivel. 

But it's pink!! and in a pink pot!  (I do like the gift) Oh just think of the things I can do with a pink pot if the plant dies! (like get a fake plant!)

The second song Miranda performed - Jump Down Turn Around.  She's the kid with a black shirt and plaid skirt, hair pulled off her face.  After watching it, I bet you will be humming Oh Lordy, pick a bale of cotton... (I know I am!)

My Song Bird

Tonight was Miranda's Spring Musical concert at school (to make up for the cancelled Christmas concert, as the students had been forced out of their school because of the fire).

Miranda was so excited to be playing the tambourine. Their first song was a French one, Sur le pont d'Avignon, which is a song about people dancing on the medieval bridge in Avignon, France.  The song dates back to the 15th century!

Miranda is in the black shirt, with the tambourine, in front of the kid with the plaid shirt.  I wish I had a better video, but we were in the back row so we could sneak out after her performance.

Miranda insisted that I buy her Spring photos this year.  She looks sweet, but I think they could have done a nicer job; her face looks chubby!  Nonetheless, she is always beautiful, and she loves the photos.

Tough Girl

I fell, slipping in a wet spot on the floor in Miranda's school. I crashed down on my left side, and my arm took almost all the impact in the crash. I also hit my ankle and my knee to the ground. I got up, said I was ok, but as I walked away, I was feeling nauseous and seeing stars. I was in so much pain and I found it comical that it was that moment when I discovered what "seeing stars" in the cartoons meant. My vision was black, with little white dots floating around. Not nearly as colourful as the yellow stars that float around a character's head in the cartoons. Although I have never experienced the pain of a broken bone, I knew my arm wasn't broken, so I figured I was ok.

I cried the entire drive home. At home, I froze to death, as I packed myself in ice, on my neck, back, and on my arm from my shoulders to my fingers.

So much for my plans to spent the night playing Wii. :( I hope it's better for Sunday, because that's when I pick up my copy of Mario Kart. I am thankful it was the left arm I injured, so at least I still have my mouse hand and my dominant hand to type with.

Wii play and Wii have fun

A week ago I was staked out in front of our local FutureShop, waiting for them to open the doors and let the floor of people (all 12 of us) inside to get our Wii's. The store had recieved a shipment on the Tuesday, but they were not releasing them for sale until Friday morning. It was almost like visiting Fort Knox! I'm surprised I didn't have to sign away my soul before they put the Wii box in my hand.

We had to line up at the back, near their stock room, and one by one we were greeted by a sales associate who walked us over to the accessories isle to pick out the rest of our Wii goods, then they carried all our stuff to the cash register to ring up the sale, then escored us to the door. It wasn't until I was 3 feet away from the exit when the Wii was finally placed in my arms.

Miranda was super-dooper excited when I told her I bought it. Saturday afternoon she said her feet were soooo sore from dance classes, yet when we got home, she played Dance Dance Revolution for 45 minutes, and then went on to play some bowling, tennis, and baseball.

I've had fun setting it up! Connecting it to the internet was super easy (I'm loving the new wireless router, which hasn't given me any problems!) I finally figured out how to set up the media center and now I can watch movies from my computer on the TV. I downloaded Pac-Man. And I came in 1st place in a race in Need For Speed ProStreet. I have pre-ordered Mario Kart and I can't wait to get the call to pick it up!! I have created 2 cool Mii's and downloaded them to my controller, so I can't wait to take it to someone's house to stick my Mii's on their box.

Now Miranda wants Rock Band in the worst possible way. She will stand and watch the people in the store play forever, and nearly cry when I tell her it's time to go (ok, that's me being a little over dramatic, but my point is she wants the game). She already has it planned out, she will sing, Scott will play the guitar and Mummy will play the drums. I'll probalby have to get my hands on an xbox because that might be easier than waiting and trying to fight to get a copy of it for the Wii when it is released.

Secret Admirer

I saw the perforated edge and I thought it must have be a receipt, but I did not know what I would have purchased. Also, I was puzzled as to why I had no recollection of tucking the receipt in this spot.

Mystery solved! It was in fact NOT a receipt, but a letter from a secret admirer!

Cow Comic

On another baby shopping excursion I picked up a copy of the free Oh Baby! magazine when we were at the Baby Department at Sears.  Cindy had just only moments before told me about the latest dangers of plastic bottles and the BPA (Bisphenol A) that leaks from the plastic when the it is heated in the dishwasher or microwave.  Anyway, I took a copy of it back to the office because I saw this silly comic in it.  You have to understand lactation to understand it.

Totally Awkward!

Can you imagine Me ever feeling awkward in a ladies' clothing store?  No way!  Well, it happened...

Yesterday over lunch, Cindy and I went shopping because she was looking for a new top.  We went to the store, she picked some out and went to try them on.  As I waited for her, I found myself feeling terribly out of place. 

We were in a Maternity store! and I was horrified that there was nothing I could buy!  I suppose there was some cream (for stretch marks, and it smelled icky) or some hard sour candies (with sugar and nothing nutritious added, despite the packaging saying they were made specifically for pregnant women), but you think in a store that sold clothes, they would also sell accessories, earrings, necklaces, scarves!  I guess they think pregnant women don't need to accessorize. 

I am so going to write a letter to the Thyme and Motherhood stores.  At Thyme, there wasn't even the cream and candies!  Now, maybe it was because we were at the outlet shops at South Common, but even the outlet shops for Buffalo, Guess, Esprit, Mexx, all carry accessories.  To me, it makes sense, especially for pregnant women.  I mean, everyone loves one-stop shopping, and if you're carrying babies in your belly, it would be easier to run into the maternity store, grab and outfit AND some earrings, then it would be to have to go to one store and then hop in your car, drive down to Clair's hop out and look for earrings there. 

I know when I was pregnant my brain wasn't working all the best so I was more inclined to impulse purchases.  What are these store thinking? PLUS, who shops with pregnant women?  Um, well usually not everyone is pregnant at the same time, so how about, non-pregnant women? I thought every store carries impulse items these days.  You go to Old Navy and you can get mints... everyone can use mints!  Now there's a store that's thinking.

Basket of Goodies

Today, I actually declared that I enjoyed baskets of goodies more than flower deliveries! (although neither is as special as surprise iTunes song deliveries).  This basket of goodies was sent from clients in Denver.  The basket was filled with fudge, French truffles, more chocolates, chocolate cookies, coffee, hot chocolate, butternut crunch popcorn, cashew roca,  fancy crackers and crab pâté.  The only think that could have made it sweeter would be a bottle of champagne!  It's nice to be appreciated.

I know, geek girl alert, getting all excited about a computer gadget gift.  I am so amazingly happy to unplug the POS D-Link that would never hold the connection.  Thank you thank you thank you!!  Now I'm off to browse music on iTunes from bed on the Touch.

Miranda wants a Wii.

I told her we could save up for one together. She is so freaking excited about this prospect and on her own she has formulated a list of things she can to to raise some Wii money. Below is her list.

I was teasing one of my clients today about his inability to add 25+7.  He said it was 31.  When I informed him that 25+7=32, he came back with a snappy comic...

I didn't reply right away, and he thought I was offended.  I replied that I loved it, and the delay was because I was putting it on my blog.

Happiness and Disaster

I was at the fish store this weekend with my Mum and Miranda.  I saw this Beta fish that had a black body and creamy yellowy coloured fins.  (kinda like this one, only it was darker black and the fins were not so yellow) I wanted it sooo bad!  I was going to name in Disaster.  Kind of a cruel and foreboding name to give an animal, but it seemed suitable. 

I was also going to get another one and name it Happiness.  In the end, Disaster was not for sale, so I walked out of the store with Happiness, and a new fish for Miranda.  I think she has named it Violet.

Eager for Spring

I can't believe how much it snowed Friday night, probably almost a foot!  Surprisingly, I wasn't too depressed by this latest dumping of the white stuff.  In fact, with the weather being warm on Saturday, I wanted to play in the snow.  I didn't, but I should have.

The roads were treacherous in the morning, skating rink slippery.  I nearly took out a stop sign and a mail box at my mum's place when making a right turn, as my car slid into the other lane.  Good thing there was no on-coming traffic.  Then, I nearly slid into a guardrail a block away from Scott's house.  Thankfully by the time I left, almost all the snow had melted from the roads.

Angel's favourite movies

The boyfriend watches a lot of movies.  I don't watch very many.  I see trailers and say "Oh! I want to see that one!!" but in the end, months and months and months  go by, and I still haven't seen Ocean's Thirteen or The Departed (I love Matt Damon is my moviestar boyfriend) or 300 or 20 other movies I said I really wanted to see. 

I am also impressed by how much detail he remembers from movies.  Usually I watch a movie and forget about it, whereas he can remember who acted, who directed, and all that.

I decided to try to compose a list of my favourite movies.  Here is what I came up with (in the order they came to me).

Worth A Second Chance

On February 12th, Dallas Green released the second CD from his solo project: City and Colour, called Bring Me Your Love.  The Boyfriend and I were "waiting" with great anticipation after hearing the first single, "Waiting", being the Dallas Green superfans that we are.

My First impression - if you're going to continue reading, be sure to read the entire thing because I'm not trashing this CD.

We were looking forward to hearing album versions of the songs we have heard in concert and on his Live CD - Confessions, Sensible Heart, Forgive Me, and our favourite, Sleeping Sickness. 

The initial disappointment was the lyrics to Sleeping Sickness. What happened to all the haunting "And I'm all alone"s?! The lyrics changed, so I was singing along to the first listen and felt like an idiot to be getting the words wrong.  Originally on his Dallas Green Simple Songs CD, this song was so, simple.  Now On Bring Me... it's a much more robust song, but to ears that were expecting something else... to hear clapping and "Someone come, Someone come and save my life" seemed like a bastardization of the original.  And then when I was singing along to Confessions, I liked the song of it, but again they lyrics have been changed. grrr!

Overall, the sound is quite different, not the acoustic guitar and piano that we new City and Colour as. harmonicas, banjos, drums, and a folky sound rings out from the speakers.  But as a superfan, I listened again.  And again and again and again, as I couldn't stop because I liked what I was hearing.

The *new* songs on the CD, are amazing.  My favourites are The Girl, Body In A Box, and Death of Me.  And now that I have recovered from the initial shock to my ears, the *old* songs on this CD really are brilliant.

I can't wait until May when Dallas rolls into town.  I'm expecting the show to be amazing, and with Dallas's talent, and the BF singing beside me :)  , I know it will be!! I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait !

The Bastards!

CBC has cancelled jPod, the bastards!  The show is humorous and no doubt about it a little unconventional, but that is what makes it so enjoyable! I read the book and the show is 1,000 times better. 

savejpod.ca is a website created to encourage jPod fans to write to CBC and petition the survival of the show. 

I'm going to mail my letter in the morning.  It has been printed on pink paper.

Angel: I'm looking for a doll.  A man doll.  An Illidan Stormrage doll.

geek guy: They are action figures.

Angel: Whatever.  I've already received  the talk about it.

geek guy: Bottom shelf over there, blue box, behind Wolverine.

Angel: Thanks.

geek guy: So you're the girlfriend.  A guy called earlier and said he'd see if his girlfriend could pick it up.  I thought he was joking.

Angel: That would be me.  He's been trying to get his hands on one of these dolls for a while. 

geek guy: You should make him sweat a little.  Tell him you couldn't get it.

Angel: I totally already have that planned !  I'm going to tell him some other geek scooped it up before I could get to it.

I didn't think of it until I was leaving, but when he first asked if he could help me, I should have looked at my hand (like a cheat sheet) before saying "Illidan Stormrage" and then laugh and show him that there really wasn't anything written on my palm.

M and the Machine

Mummy, do I have an email?

... and so it begins. My recently turned 8-year old is hooked on the Internet, as she runs into the room saying, "I need to get on MSN to check something!".  Before, she was online to play on Webkinz or Club Penguin or Barbie.com, but now she wants to email her friend. 

We had a little tiff this weekend because I insist on reading her email with her, after I saw, and censored, a blonde joke email her friend sent (Her friend is a year ahead of Miranda, and in a grade 4/5 split class, so I'm concerned about the age difference and what she might be exposing Miranda to).

She typed out her first email to her friend.  I feel somewhat bad for posting this, but it's kinda cute to see how she typed it, actually inserting the quotation marks around blonde.  I'm also impressed that she spelled blonde correctly!

Hey Girl!  Are you allowed on MSN yet.My mom said I can't read those ''Blonde'' story's you sent me. I loved that picture of the hand holding a fairy.I did'nt get my big desk yet.Scott has a sore kneeand could'nt get the desk today.

Over dinner conversation tonight, she actually said "oh-em-gee" (OMG).  I was like WTF?!  How does she know that already?!  Scott quizzed her and she doesn't know what BYOB is yet. ;)

I will have to be checking regularly with The 25 slang terms parent should know, to make sure I am keeping on top of things.  I took their test and I got one wrong!!

I played this song in the car.  Miranda made me play it again and again.  I was playing this song at home.  Scott heard it and made me play it again and again.  I love this song, so I play it for myself, again and again and again and again.

No Good is another amazing song, and I also like It's Only Life and One Way or Another and Only Fooling Myself and Chicago.  She has an incredible voice, she writes her own music, and her lyrics are catchy and meaningful.

Wristcutters: A Love Story

A boy, distraught after a breakup, cuts his wrists and ends up in an after-life world reserved for suicide victims, that is like the real world, only a little worse.  He discovers that his ex-girlfriend also offed herself.  Ah!  Hope in a hopeless world!! He and his new friend, a Russian rocker, set of on a road-trip across a very desolate land, where they meet some interesting characters, in search of her.

It's quirky and funny and as you watch them travelling to nowhere, you are captivated to find out where they will end up.  The boyfriend and I agree it is the best film we're seen in a long time.  In fact, I watched it again today.  I can't remember the last time I watched the same movie 2 days in a row, because I wanted to, and not because I fell asleep the first time.  I loved it just as much the second time around. 

Dreaming of Snow

It's not very often that this girl will dream of snow.  We still have a lot, but it's melting and is all crusty and icy.  So what do we do when we're not out in the snow?  We sit in the garage and pretend we're bombing through fields of the powdery white stuff.

Eureka! She found it!

I just spent 30+ minutes racking my brain trying to find this song on the Internet.  I was watching the most recent episode of jpod (great CANANDIAN show, filmed in Vancouver, with lots of Canadian actors) and there was a song called "You're No Good" in it.  I couldn't, for the life of me, remember the name of the band.

I remember listening to the song when I was starting high school.  I remember it came out the same time as Pearl Jam's Ten, Ugly Kid Joe's As Ugly As They Wanna Be, Nirvana's Nevermind, and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which was 1991.  I tried googling the lyrics but couldn't find anything that rang a bell.

Then I remembered it had a weird name, like Glob or Blob... I searched everywhere I could think of and came up with nothing.  Finally, it came to me!  The band was Sons of Freedom, and the CD was called Gump !  And go freaking figure - the band was from Vancouver.

And now I can go to bed in peace.  I might even have the CD.  I have a case at work and it might be in there.  I hope so, because there are some pretty awesome songs on it.

What's in her purse?

In a drunken state on Saturday night, I had an idea for a new game:

"All of them?  Just joking, there's bound to be some silver and glitter in there as well..."

In the morning, I emptied my purse onto the table to take stock.  It was eerie to discover how accurate she was.  EVERYTHING is pink, silver, or sparkly.

Angel loves her Valentine

On Valentine's Day, nothing says I love you like a gift that comes in a small package.  I got a small package this year.  It's pink, fits in the palm of my hand, plays music, and is absolutely perfect.♥

Scott was a little bit of a schmuck before giving it to me.  I already knew what I was getting (he told me about it on the weekend) but on Valentine's Day, over dinner, he mentioned how it was impossible to find a pink ipod Nano anywhere in town.  I said, "So you didn't get me a pink one?"  His response, "It will be pink when you put it in the case."  I admit, I was slightly disappointed and hope it didn't show on my face.

I squealed with delight when I opened the bag,  "It's piiiiinnnk!!!!!"

For My Valentine

The Big 3-0

My 30th birthday sucked ass.  I woke up with a $50 parking ticket on my car.  My dad was in the ER for chest pains/breathing problems.  My brother was out of town.  My (ex)boyfriend was hung over from his bon voyage party the night before.  Half my friends were out of town.  The other 1/2 of my friends either had other things to do, or left  early to go to the bar. Plus, the Oilers were at home in a playoff game. I drank a bottle of wine and wen to bed early.

Rethink Pink

A year ago I would have been tickled pink to hear that they make a pink BlackBerry.  Telus now has a pink BlackBerry Pearl!  Cool news, but still, I want an iPhone.

Telus is donating $25 from every sale to Rethink Pink, a charity to help people dealing with breast cancer, education, research and support.
